Sexton Lofts: Classic Warehouse Ethos in Elliot Park

Located at 521 S 7th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415, Sexton Lofts is a warehouse-style building that has long been a familiar landmark to local residents in Elliot Park. The seven-story structure was built in 1926 by land developer Woodbury F. Andrews who named the building after his mother, Fannie Sexton. The brick building with its wide bands of windows was used for various purposes over the years and was converted into 123 one and two-bedroom loft-style condos in 2006. After the project’s developers were embroiled in a financial scandal in 2010, the Sexton was repurchased by a new entity, with additional renovations to common areas. Bedrooms are often inventively designed, sometimes with sliding barn-style doors. You’ll also sometimes find intriguing, corrugated metal ceilings in key spaces. These is also tons of closet space, in-unit washers and dryers, stylish bathrooms, and fun nooks and crannies in these impressive condos.

The seven-story historic structure with its giant factory-style windows still has “Sexton Building” emblazoned in original paint at the top of one size, an homage to its roots. These nods to the past continue throughout the building, including common areas where raw concrete pillars and aged wood contrast nicely with sleek custom finishes. Residents and visitors enter into a huge and welcoming lobby with a stylish fireplace, and there is also a package room. Fiber optic internet is included with the association fee. The picturesque urban courtyard and patio is a nice, authentic touch, and there is also a terrific rooftop deck with a trellis, outdoor kitchen, and lounge furniture. There is also a bike room, and both garage and surface parking. The pet-friendly building is close to Elliot Park and its Recreation Center, the Commons, and the Gateway Dog Park.
