River Station: Modern Condos in the Warehouse District
Built in stages with completion dates between 1988 and 2001, River Station garnered much attention as the largest condominium community in Minneapolis. While the location of record is 560 N 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55401, each of the 18 buildings has its own street address, ranging from 500 to 680 1st and 2nd Streets. The handsome brick exteriors offers a contemporary take on North Loop’s well-known warehouse ethos, a subtle contrast with historic structures across the street. The individual buildings at River Station are surrounded by verdant landscaping, making the complex feel like its own small neighborhood. Other large residential communities in this part of North Loop include the townhome developments of Renaissance on the River, and The Landings.
Condo units come in a wide array of models, layouts, ad sizes at River Station. There are one and two-bedroom choices, some of which also include bonus spaces such as dens that can work nicely as work-from-home spaces or additional sleeping accommodations. These spacious residences feature open concept living and dining areas. Additional variables include single-level and duplex floorplans. Many of the residences have been remodeled over the years, resulting in an even greater variety of styles and finishes. Oversized windows allow for abundant natural light, and floors can be either wood or carpet, with handsome tile often found in the gourmet kitchens with their stone counters and stainless steel appliances. Most units have some sort of private outdoor space, from patios to balconies. Bathroom finishes often mirror those found in the kitchen, and in-unit washers and dryers are also standard.
Residents at River Station enjoy private entrances to their units, and a feeling of leafy charm due to lovely landscaping that includes grassy courtyard areas, tasteful plantings, mature shade trees, and walkways that wind through the community. Indoor storage units, secure underground parking, plenty of guest parking, mail and package rooms, and a great location all add to the appeal. These are also some of the more affordable condos for sale in the area. River Station is a pet-friendly condo community, but prospective buyers should always check for any potential restrictions. The complex is nicely positioned near a greenbelt that extends along the Mississippi River, but also close to shops, restaurants, grocery stores, sports, and entertainment.

River Station and the North Loop Experience
River Station was developed at a time of transition in the North Loop neighborhood, as the former industrial hub was morphing into a vibrant residential community. The ambitious 18-building project took its name from its location at the site of former rail yards near the Mississippi River. North Loop first came to prominence during the late 1800s and early 1900s and was known for its proliferation of warehouses, wholesalers, showrooms, poolhalls, and other stalwarts of industry. An eventual period of urban decline was followed by a new era of rebirth as old warehouses were renovated and converted to residential use, along with the development of new construction luxury condominiums like River Station. This lively and highly popular part of Minneapolis is known for its top bars, restaurants, art galleries, comedy clubs, and outdoor recreation. Sports fans enjoy major league baseball and basketball at Target Field and Target Center.
